T13 - 13 Fun Holiday Ideas for Singles

Thirteen Fun Holiday Ideas for Singles
Whether you're single by choice or single by circumstance, being single during the holidays can become lonely at times, especially if you're a distance from your family.
There are a variety of events geared toward singles during the holidays. Being a part of these is a great way to meet new people, even if you're not looking for a relationship, but there are many other opportunities for singles to enjoy the joys of the season.
  1. Accept the party invitation you were considering, even if you don't have a date. Mingle and have fun. Don't forget a holiday gift basket for your host!
  2. Make hot cocoa and popcorn and invite a few close friends to watch your favorite holiday movies with you one evening.
  3. Throw your own holiday party. It may be a little late this year to plan anything elaborate, but you can still host a small gathering. Check out these Christmas games to keep your party interesting.
  4. Volunteering is an opportunity to be a part of the holiday cheer. Look for local opportunities that relate to your interests. You may even get a Santa Suit and help out at an area toy drive!
  5. Treat yourself. Plan a vacation, a trip to the spa, or take yourself on a mini shopping spree.
  6. Decorate for the holidays. A festive home is the best way to enjoy your own holiday cheer.
  7. Enjoy one of your personal interests during the season. Join a craft class and create a special gift or frequent your religious organization.
  8. Tis the season to give. Make a point to donate to a charity, shop for a needy child, or even help sponsor a charity drive this holiday.
  9. If you're a single parent, consider getting creative and making simple gifts for family and friends together.
  10. Celebrate a holiday tradition from your childhood. Look at lights through your town, watch fireworks, or listen to carols while drinking cocoa.
  11. Visit a friend you haven't seen in a long time or a distanced family member you've been out of touch with.
  12. Organize a gift exchange or Secret Santa party at the office and include all your co-workers.
  13. If you're single and looking, check out A Better Way to Date by Michael Webb for the best tips for singles available.

Most of these ideas are great for singles, couples, and families alike. Being single for the holidays is not as bad as it sounds - enjoy the company of friends and family and spread the holiday cheer. :-)

Very great ideas...volunteering is wonderful and you would be surprised at the people you can meet...my sister started a charity event in Chicago this way from people she met via volunteering.
Awesome theme and a refreshing post. Hope you will visit the Cafe.

The ideas are all great, but some people prefer to stay alone (unfortunately)

You forgot to mention making things out of tin foil, hangers & cups etc. Single people can make all sorts of cool stuff -- then play Secret Santa :p

    Thanks for stopping by!

I have another tip: don't convince yourself that everyone else is having a happy time surrounded by family. Based on my experience volunteering at a call-in counseling service every Christmas for several years, I can assure you that this isn't the case (and I'm not talking only about the phone counselor).

It rarely lives up to expectations and many people take this very hard or get their feelings hurt over ridiculous things.

If you're alone, stock up on great books/movies; get in some fancy foods in advance, and have a long self-indulgent day revelling in your ability to do what you want WHEN you want. (Yes, I've had a number of Christmases like that).13 Extraordinary Winter scenes

I had my Christmas party with friends last week. I throw one every year. I actually cook a turkey and have people bring dishes. We do this in lieu of exchanging gifts (although we do have a White Elephant exchange for fun). The rest of the evening is games and movies. I reccomend it heartily.
